In her National Post column and in books such as Unworthy Creature, Barbara Kay is direct, precise, intelligent and, above all, counterintuitive. She is an academic by training, and a literature lover by genetic composition. Her writing constantly challenges the existing order. Barbara pits herself against the order of the day not from nostalgia for a lost order, but to recall us to a transcendent order that human societies - especially democratic societies - must live within, if only so that we do not forget our obligations to the least among us.

This talk was originally presented at the annual Hill Family Lecture on October 15, 2012 at the Rideau Club in Ottawa, ON.
